SAN FERNANDO CITY, June 14 (PIA) – A total of 80 jobseekers were hired on the spot (HOTS) after joining the Kalayaan Jobs and Business Fair, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) La Union said.

The job fair, which was held at the Pacoy Ortega Gym here, was one of the events in celebration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day.

Veronica Corsino, DOLE La Union chief, said that the number of HOTS in the province was 22.95 percent of the total 351 jobseekers who participated in the recent event.

“We are glad to note that we have exceeded our target of 20 percent HOTS this year,” Corsino said.

Of the total number, 59 were hired for local employment while 21 are for jobs abroad.

Further, some 85 individuals were considered ‘near hires’ and are subject for the final process of recruitment.

On the Business Fair, Corsino said that 55 potential entrepreneurs or those who are planning to venture into business were assisted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Eight applicants were also referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for training.

“Good business opportunity awaits those who are decided to be in this field. It was emphasized to them that to be referred for livelihood assistance to DTI, they should be in a group,” Corsino added.

This year’s Kalayaan event offers not just job vacancies for fill-up but also business oportunities for those who would like to venture into entrepreneurship and are in need of livelihood assistance. (VAV/PIA La Union)
