BAGUIO CITY, July 13(PIA) – – Advocacy for smoke-free and illegal drugs – free facility remains strong at the City Jail Female dormitory.
Jail Senior Inspector April Rose Ayangwa presented during the 3rd Quarter Service Provider’s Summit the certificate of commendation given by the City Government to the Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory in recognition of its being a Department of Health Red Orchid Awardee for implementing a 100 percent smoke – free environment.
Ayangwa disclosed that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Baguio City Female Dorm is vying this year for a third Red Orchid Awards to be among the DOH’s Hall of Famers for such distinction.
The DOH Red Orchid Awards recognizes local government units, government offices and hospitals implementing 100% tobacco-free environment .
In the campaign against illegal drugs, Ayangwa reported that the female dorm remains 100 – percent drug free in the first semester of 2018 with all the surprise facility inspections in the first six months of the year, and the three drug testing activities conducted to dorm residents on Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and BJMP personnel, showing negative results.
‘Rest assured that we are committed to maintain an illegal drug – free facility both in terms of the PDLs and the BJMP personnel,’ she said.
Meantime, Ayangwa expressed BJMP’s gratitude to their service providers for the success of the “Adopt a Dorm/Room Program” wherein assigned groups will conduct fellowship, trainings and counselling activities, among others, to the respective dorms they have adopted.
She also appealed for continuing partnership in bringing in development programs and activities for the PDLs in the Baguio City Jail dorm.
The PDLs in the female dorm, in expressing their gratitude, offered song number and free beauty and wellness service (manicure/pedicure, haircut and massage) to the summit participants from religious groups, civil society organizations and government institutions.
The Baguio City Jail female dorm has a livelihood center where TESDA – trained residents provide beauty and wellness services as an income opportunity.
Providing livelihood opportunities is among the rehabilitation and personal development programs of the Baguio City Jail Female Dorm through their partner service providers. There are also spiritual guidance, counselling, legal consultation, provision of medical and dental services, sports activities and cultural/entertaining programs, among others.
