BJMP’s 27th Anniversary kicks off through tactical sport

QUEZON CITY, July 12 — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology kicks off its weeklong anniversary celebration with the conduct of the 9th STAR Olympics last June 30, 2018 at PNPA Firing Range, Camp Gen. Mariano Castaneda in Silang Cavite.

Retired PDDG Benjamin Belarmino Jr., guest speaker, cited that the activity not only showcases the tactical skills of BJMP personnel but also empowers teamwork among its members.

Special Tactics and Response (STAR) teams are the BJMP’s elite forces, capable of responding to critical incidents and situations in jails.

15 STAR teams from different regions competed for six grueling stages, which tested their proficiency in shooting and several formats of armed battle.

“It is important that we continuously improve our skills. Competition and specialized trainings like these will help us hone our tactical capabilities,” Belarmino added.

The Special Tactics and Rescue Olympics started in 2011, and is a much-anticipated event during the annual founding celebration of the BJMP. (BJMP)
