ILOILO CITY, July 13 (PIA6) – A student from Capiz National High School garnered the top prize in the recent regional competition for the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2018 essay writing contest held July 7 at Iloilo National High School here.
Joanna Wayne Horneja bested 17 other students from various school divisions in Western Visayas to clinch first place in the said writing competition organized by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6.
The contest was anchored on the theme “KATATAGAN SA KALAMIDAD ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan.”
Horneja received a medal, a plaque of recognition and PhP5,000 cash prize during the awarding ceremony held after the contest at Robinson’s Place.
Josh Aldrich Diola of Sum-ag National High School in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental was second place while Vince Regil Gravanza of Col. Ruperto Abellon National High School, Laua-an, Antique was adjudged as third. Each received a medal, a plaque of recognition and PhP4,000 and PhP3,000 cash prizes, respectively.
As the first place winner in the regional contest, Horneja’s entry automatically qualifies for the National Awards.
Final Adjudication for the National Awards is set on July 18, 2018 while the awarding of winners will be on July 31 during the National Closing Ceremony for NDRM 2018. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
