City gov’t: Expect better Dinagyang in 2019

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 12 (PIA6) — The city government here said that the public can expect a better Iloilo Dinagyang Festival in 2019.

During the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) held recently, which also marked the ceremonial launching of the festival, City Mayor Jose Espinosa III said that innovations will be introduced to the world-renowned festival through the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Incorporated (IDFI).

“We will go a step further and see to it that we will be producing a new and better Dinagyang,” he said.

Espinosa also announced that the City Council has approved the Php18-million financial assistance of the city government to the celebration of the Dinagyang festival.

“We want to maintain the quality of performance of the tribes,” he said.

He added that the subsidies to the tribes for the Ati-Ati competition next year will be increased to Php1.2 million each, which is a Php200,000 increase from 2018.

The 2019 Dinagyang Festival will be anchored on the theme “Connecting Communities Thru Culture and Faith.” (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
