Davao Norte entreps embrace  'Mentor Me' program to level up

DAVAO DEL NORTE (PIA) – More than 20 entrepreneurs in Davao del Norte are expected to bring their business ventures to the next level after taking part in the “Mentor Me” program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

DTI Davao del Norte Field Office is set to host a Mentor Me graduation ceremony today (July 9) for participants who have presented their business improvement plans to mentors from the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurs,  DTI regional and provincial offices, and the banking sector.

In a pre-event briefing, DTI’s Necitas Lazaga said the graduates comprise the third batch of Mentor Me training with participants mostly coming from food and services sector.

Participants from the cities of Panabo, Tagum and Samal and from several municipalities are engaged in the  processing of herbal tea, donuts, mango products, chicken,  mushroom, calamansi, and breads and pastries.

Some  are into food service such as catering and coffee and pastries,  laundry services, production of purified water,  retailing of spices and cookware while others embark on selling of souvenir items, balloons, sweet candies and flowers, and trophy and plaques.

“The advantage of going through this is that they would be able to improve their enterprise,” Lazaga said.

Moreover, participants would be prioritized to avail themselves of entrepreneurial training and seminars, and that they would be able to obtain free advice from PCE mentors even after graduating from the training.

“They would have a chance to access funds from banks, as well,” Lazaga said, citing as examples previous participants whose business plans were picked by mentors from the banking sector for funding.

Banking sector mentors for the Mentor Me current batch are coming from the Bank of the Philippine Islands), Philippine National Bank and the Small Business Corp.

DTI Regional Director Maria Belenda Q. Ambi and her counterpart in the provincial level, Director Romy Castanaga, headed the team of mentors. (PIA-XI)
