CATARMAN, Northern Samar, May 31 (PIA) — The Department of Education Northern Samar Division gathered some 36 school districts’ information officers (IOs) for an orientation-training on their roles and functions held at the Seashore Spring Beach Resort in San Antonio, this province.
“This is part of the efforts of improving our communication systems and public disclosure of information by observing protocol and proper procedure,” School Division Superintendent Carmela Tamayo said.
The training, conducted on May 17-18, was aimed at providing a venue for sharing/feedback mechanism that would ensure ethical and responsive information system, with inputs on social media and media ethics as discussed by the Philippine Information Agency provincial manager, Ailene Diaz.
Discussions went beyond the roles and functions of IOs as the two-day activity also tackled desired qualities an information officer must possess, with broad knowledge of school protocol attuned to cultural diversities.
Dr. Felix Ladeṅo, senior education program specialist for Human Resource Development, oriented the IOs on the Freedom of Information while lawyer Risty Adarayan of Deped Northern Samar Legal Office shared an overview on Data Privacy Act of 2012.
The district information officers are expected to adhere to the communication protocol particularly on coordination and dissemination of information aspect within and outside the organization, Ladeṅo stressed. (LDL/AND/PIA-8, Northern Samar)
