CATBALOGAN CITY, May 31 (PIA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) Samar Division is all set for the School Year 2019-2020 which will officially start on June 3, 2019.
With the Brigada Eskwela earlier conducted, parents and students are guaranteed classes will formally start on Monday, June 3, and no further delay is expected.
“Gone are the days when classes are delayed as students still help in cleaning and preparing their school for a conducive environment,” DepEd Samar Senior Education Program Specialist and Information Officer Gerry Ocenar said.
“This is also one of the reasons why DepEd encourages stakeholders to lend their time and effort in joining the Brigada Eskwela, after all, it takes a village to educate a child. The community should help in giving quality education to the children,” he added.
Ocenar likewise reminds parents and guardians that DepEd has an existing “No Collection Policy” and that schools should uphold this rule.
The Department Order states that no fees shall be collected from school children in pre-school up to Grade IV during the enrolment period and all throughout the school year.
On the other hand, for year levels beyond Grade 4, there should be no collection during the enrolment period and the first month of classes. However, for the second month, voluntary contributions may be collected such Boy/Girl Scouts membership, Parent-Teacher and Community Association, School Publication, among others.
The DepEd official also assured that should there be any violation of the policy, his office is ready to act on this.
Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week is a week-long event with stakeholders and other volunteers sharing resources and time to do repairs and other services in schools in efforts to get ready for the coming school year. (LDL/GMT/PIA-8, Samar)
