DILG readies SK members for special elections


CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 11 (PIA) – – Department of Interior and Local Government(DILG) officers   are in consultation with barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK)  top officials  for the conduct of special elections to fill up vacancies in the SK pursuant to Section 19 of Republic Act 10742 or the SK Reform Act of 2015.

Kliene Chunanon of DILG provincial office here said both the barangays  and SK chairpersons   were called to plan out with municipal Local Government Operations Officers (LGOOs) the smooth conduct of special Katipunan ng Kabataan assembly for purposes of conducting special elections to complete the membership of said sanggunian.

He said all barangays in Kalinga have their elected SK chairmen, and the vacancies exist in other positions.

It can be recalled that DILG Officer-In-Charge Eduardo Ano issued Memorandum Circular No. 2018-212 dated December 20, 2018 requiring the conduct of special elections 30 days after the approval of said Circular or on January 19, 2019.

 The Circular requires all youth ages 15-30 to register with the SK Secretary or if none, with the Barangay Secretary. The SK officials elected in this special election shall hold office for the unexpired portion of the term of the vacant seats.

 “Proclaimed winners will have to undergo the mandatory training program before he or she can assume office,” Chunanon stressed adding that funds needed for this purpose shall be chargeable to SK funds. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
