TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 11 (PIA) – The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 2 has started conducting Ligtas Tigdas Supplemental Immunization Activity (SIA) on October 1 as part of its committment to strengthen the immunization program.
According to Dr. Bryan Nino Galapia, medical officer of DOH in Region 2, the SIA or the vaccination of one dose of measles vaccine to infants and children 6 to 59 months old without documented measles immunization in the past one month ensures that children receives protection from any complications.
Galapia called on parents to take note of the activity. He also informed the public that health workers will be going to different barangays in the region to ensure that every child will get the vaccine especially those who were not able to receive the vaccination in the Rural Health Centers.
“Schoolchildren within the age range will also be given vaccines in their respective schools provided they have their parent’s consent,” he added.
Galapia also reminded parents ensure that the consent form are given to their children for submission during the scheduled vaccination in their respective schools.
Galapia assured parents that measles vaccine is safe.
He said adverse reactions following immunization are generally mild and will last only for a short time.
“Slight pain, tenderness, mild swelling, and redness at the injection site, mild fever and swollen lymph nodes may occur but severe and systemic reactions following immunizations with the vaccine are rare,” he said.
