BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Oct. 9 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here has started to release paychecks for the beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this year.
Letty Puguon, Provincial Employment Service officer said at least 247 SPES beneficiaries from the 15 towns of the province who rendered services in various government agencies will be paid P340.00 per day for a period of 20 days based on the prevailing minimum wage set by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Cagayan Valley.
Puguon said the processing of the paychecks for the SPES beneficiaries was delayed in the regional office of the DOLE due to the onslaught of typhoon ‘Ompong’ in the region.
“The strong typhoon caused power outages for quite sometime especially in Tuguegarao City. The processing is based on computer-based system,” she said.
Puguon also called on SPES beneficiaries from remote villages in Nueva Vizcaya such as in Ambaguio and in Dupax del Norte towns to complete their requirements to facilitate the speedy release of their paychecks.
“They can contact our office to ask about the requirements so that they can prepare them before going to the DOLE,” she added.
SPES provides job opportunities for poor and deserving students and Out of School Youths (OSYs) during summer time and Christmas season to help them earn additional money for their educational expenses.
Sixty (60) percent of SPES salaries are provided by the host local government or private agencies while the DOLE provides the 40 percent. (PIA-2/Nueva Vizcaya)
