ORMOC CITY, July 6 (PIA) — Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade is planning to make the Ormoc City Airport a night-rated airport where it can accommodate flights even after sunset to make it commercially operational and serve more passengers.
This he said before the inauguration of the Ormoc Airport Development Project on Friday, July 5.
Tugade assured that the transformation of the city’s airport into a night-rated one will be realized before President Duterte’s term of office ends.
The widening of the city airport’s runway is also in the pipeline as he mentioned that the project will start this year.
The DOTr chief recalled the previous situation of the city airport which he described its runway as “sira at tuklap” which posed danger to the passengers as well as to the plane.
He also mentioned that before, the airport’s passenger terminal can hardly accommodate 20 passengers.
Aside from a small passenger terminal area before, Tugade also observed the still pebbled parking area, and the absence of generator set that will supply power for a continued airport operations.
Meanwhile, Tugade told Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez in his message, “Ma’am, ito na po ang airport na ipinangako ng Pangulo.” (Ma’am, this is the airport promised by the President).
He said the Ormoc Airport Development Project, which was inaugurated by no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is part of the administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program aimed to make the Filipino lives comfortable. (LDL/RSV/PIA-8)
