Former solon wins as mayor, ends Castañeda reign in Lingayen

LINGAYEN, Pangasina,  May 17 (PIA) – Pangasinan’s Second Congressional District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil triumphed in his bid to be a mayor of Lingayen by beating Incumbent Mayor Josephina Castañeda during the 2019 National and Local Midterm Election.

Bataoil, who run under the National Unity Party, ended the Castañeda family’s almost three-decade reign in Lingayen with 30, 968 votes. Castañeda of Lakas got 21, 321 votes.

Castañeda and his late husband Jonas Castañeda both served as mayor of Lingayen town for 27 years.

Bataoil was proclaimed as newly-elected mayor evening of May 15 at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall here.

“Thank you for the support of my family and to all the people who loves the town of Lingayen. Let us now unite for our beloved Lingayen,” Bataoil said in his facebook account.

Likewise, Castañeda, in her facebook account, expressed gratitude toall the constituents of Lingayen for their love and support to her and her family. She added that Castañeda family is very happy that they have served the people of Lingayen for 27 years.

Meanwhile, Bataoil’s running mate Judy De Leon Vargas beat Castañeda’s running mate, Lawyer Nepthalie Pasiliao, in the vice mayoralty race with 25,249 votes against Pasiliao’s 25, 073.  (JND/EMS/PIA-Pangasinan)
