Free x-ray for suspected TB patients

ILOILO CITY, July 10 (PIA) — The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD)-6 encouraged the public to avail of the free chest x-ray examination for suspected tuberculosis (TB) patients in the region.

Christine Mosqueda, DOH-6 National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) nurse coordinator, said the free chest x-ray examination was implemented to intensify the active case finding activities in the region under the National TB Control Program.

“Only a few have availed of the free x-ray services particularly at Western Visayas Medical Center and this is only until September 2019,” she said.

Aside from Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao District here, the other facilities in Region 6 which offer the free chest x-ray services are the following: Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City; Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan, Iloilo; Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo, Aklan; Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose, Antique; Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City, Capiz; and Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan, Guimaras.

The free chest x-ray examination in Western Visayas Medical Center and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital will only be available until September 2019.

Mosqueda said individuals who can avail of the free x-ray service include adult with cough of at least two weeks duration and those with unexplained cough of any duration due to close contacts with TB patients; those with history of TB; individuals belonging to the high risk clinical groups such as diabetes, PLHIV, immuno-compromised, and vulnerable population.

For referrals, individuals should use the NTP voucher and are advised to bring it directly to hospital DOTS clinic for further assistance. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
