BACOLOD CITY, June 13 (PIA6) – – Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Jesus Clint Aranas, in a message delivered by GSIS Vice President for Corporate Affairs Mary Abigail Francisco, said freedom is the measure of maturity as a free people.
“The exercise of freedom has both the power to nurture and the potential to destroy. It is the measure, therefore, of our maturity as a free people if the exercise of the freedoms we so cherish are guided by wisdom, enlightenment, and respect for human dignity,” Aranas said.
Francisco, who represented Aranas, joined the local officials led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia in the flag raising, wreath laying and commemoration ceremonies at the Bacolod City Public Plaza for the 120th Independence Day celebration.
According to Aranas, freedom speaks to what it truly means to be human, and it is at the bedrock of the world’s most advanced societies.
Meanwhile, Leonardia expounded on the theme, “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan”, which he said is exactly what President Rodrigo Duterte aims at when, upon assumption to office, where the President implemented his campaign promise to change many of our ways of governance by correcting the wrong and eliminating those that are not needed or those that have become a menace to the rights of our people to live freely and peacefully.
“We have to fight for the changes we want to implement because upon them lies the future of our children. We must keep on changing for the better and eventually for the best,” Leonardia added as he urged Bacoleños to get out of their comfort zones and explore, dream and discover.*(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
