DAVAO CITY, May 27 (PIA)- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI warns that the Asian Drug-Triad dubbed as the “Golden Triangle,” is now a source of shabu in the Philippines.
Atty. Bhen Joseph Tesiorna, assistant director of the PDEA XI said that aside from China, the poor man’s cocaine is now sourced in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.
He said that the source of illegal drugs becomes nearer since it is currently manufactured closer to the Philippines.
The Duterte Leadership has succeeded in dismantling local shabu laboratories nationwide with the massive campaign against illegal drugs through the “tokhang operations” during the early years of his administration.
Tesiorna said the latest apprehension of the PDEA worth P1.2 Billion of shabu comes from Cambodia.
“We have been receiving persistent reports as early as three to six months ago that the triad composed of Thailand, Lao and Cambodia is also penetrating the Philippine market,” he said.
Tesiorna said this trend is dangerous since Cambodia, Lao and Thailand are closer to the country, unlike China which is farther from the Philippines.
He said the PDEA is doubling its effort to prevent the entry of more illegal drugs from the triad which is situated in Southeast Asia.
Tesiorna underscored that many users will go crazy once shabu floods the city streets. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
