Imported rice arrives in WV; prices seen to stabilize

ILOILO CITY, July 5 (PIA) –The National Food Authority (NFA)-6 said that the presence of NFA rice in the markets will help stabilize the price and supply of the commodity.

This as 4,000 metric tons or 80,000 bags of Thailand imported rice have arrived in Western Visayas last month via M/V Dong Phu.

In a media release, NFA-6 Regional Manager Angel G. Imperial Jr. said this is the result of government-to-government procurement negotiation.

“This is quality good rice. That is the commitment of the government,” he said.

Of the 80,000 bags, Iloilo will receive 46,000 bags, while Antique, Capiz, and Negros Occidental will each get 10,000 bags, and Aklan will have 5,000 bags.

NFA rice sells at PhP27 a kilo while commercial rice varieties are sold at PhP39 to PhP49 per kilo for regular milled rice and PhP44 to PhP48 per kilo for well-milled rice. (JBG/NFA/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
