Isabela jeepney operators, drivers seek fare hike

Jeepney operators and drivers in Isabela seeks the intervention of the LTFRB-2 to approve their petition for a fare increase.

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, July 13 (PIA)–A group of jeepney operators and drivers in this province recently sought the intervention of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in the Cagayan Valley Region to approve their petition for a fare increase.

Rolando Sayago, Cauayan City Transport Cooperative Vice Chairman, said they proposed a P2 increase from the minimum fare of P8 applicable to all jeepneys operating provincewide.

Sayago cited the continuous rise in fuel prices and vehicle spare parts as among the reasons on the need to increase jeepney fares in the province.

“We have not sought an increase for the past years, however, we could no longer cope with the impact of the rising prices of fuel, spare parts and other operating expenses,” he said.

Sayago and his members are hopeful that their petition will be approved by the LTFRB in order for them to meet higher operational costs. (ALM/MGE/PIA-2 Isabela)
