LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Jan. 10 (PIA) — The Fuchu City in Tokyo, Japan through its Rotary Club, turned over two truckloads of table wares in the province to be used by the Department of Education including day care centers.
Benguet Schools Superintendent Marie Carolyn Verano recently received from Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) Local Coordinator Koji Kaneda in behalf of the Fuchu Rotary Club, 113,210 pieces of porcelain table wares composed of rice bowls, soup bowls, and plates, among others.
Executive Assistant of the Governor’s Office Jenaira Okubo said this is a product of initial talks of the Fuchu Rotary Club and the JAEC together with Governor Crescencio Pacalso.
The goods arrived last November but were only delivered in December due to some documentary procedures. All transportation, delivery and other expenses such as taxes and storage fees were handled by the donor as indicated in the agreement, she added.
Okubo said these were initially for identified high schools by the DepEd but due to the overwhelming volume of the delivered goods, all the high schools were included together with elementary schools in all the school districts of the province.
Verano said recipients are more than 60 high schools and more than 300 elementary schools in the 14 districts in Bengeut. Most of the day care centers also received their share.
The table wares will be used for high school subjects in Home Economics for instructions and for the feeding program for students.
“The dishes are very good to be used as we see them compared to the plastics which are not safe,” Verano said acknowledging the help extended by the Fuchu City government. She hopes for future partnerships on other school needs.
As the donors are particular on the usage of the wares and the recipients, DepEd ensures that these are monitored.
Quoting the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child, our villages could be extended up to other countries” said Verano referring to the assistance extended by the local government of Japan. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
