CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 10(PIA)–Micro producers in the province hauled-in P4.5 million sales during the Yuletide fair giving the industry bright h ope this 2019.
Organized by the Chamber of Kalinga Producers, Inc. (CKAPI) through the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office, exhibitors hold the annual bonanza to add festive mood to the season.
Regina Madio, CKAPI president, reported the top-sellers were furniture with P2,104,666; handicrafts, home decors & fashion – P663,224; processed foods – P602,108; others – P577,059 and ornamental plants – P244,901.
Madio attributed the high sales performance to growing market and improved products. This is the result of product innovation skills continuously given to members, she noted.
The CKAPI, now a booming association in the province, was started few years ago by a group of mothers who tried to make their time productive while attending to their house chores.
Part of the group’s tradition is the ‘goodwill project’ of distributing free slippers and school supplies to indigent school children using part of the bonanza proceeds. ( JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
