N. Samar PPOC leads 12-km walk/run for peace

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, September 13 (PIA) — The Northern Samar Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) with the police and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process (OPAPP) led a 12-km walk/run as a kick-off activity in celebration of the peace consciousness month on September 1, 2018.

Peace advocates from different civic organizations and barangay officials of Catubig and Las Navas towns joined the event.

It started at the Las Navas Coliseum and ended up at the Catubig Municipal Covered Court.

Police Provincial Director Reynaldo De la Cruz, in his speech, encouraged the communities to extend cooperation and support to the Philippine National Police and report to authorities anything suspicious to maintain peace and order in the province.

He also ordered his men on the ground to increase visibility and patrol and tighten security measures to protect the lives and properties of the people.

On the other hand, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPPAP) Provincial Coordinator Maricel Bantilo Balasolla called for a unified action towards the shared aspiration for a just, comprehensive, and enduring peace regardless of ideology, religion, and culture exemplified by the theme: “Peace Na Tayo! Mithiing Kapayapaan, Sama-samang Isakatuparan.”

The country marks September as National Peace Consciousness Month and conducts different activities to attain peace.

The “Peace Na Tayo” tagline is a simple way to communicate the theme’s call for a participative pursuit of peace more particularly in Northern Samar being an armed conflict area. (NBQ/TBC/PIA-8, Northern Samar)
