NEDA Usec cites relevance of RDP in Antique’s development

SAN JOSE, Antique Aug. 8 (PIA)  —  Undersecretary Adoracion M. Navarro of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) cited programs and projects in the Regional Development Plan (RDP) relevant to the growth and development of Antique.

“Many of the major infrastructure projects are relevant to the province of Antique,” she said during the 2017-2022 Western Visayas Regional Development Plan Roadshow held recently in San Jose de Buenavista.

Among the projects and programs stated in the RDP are roads linking to production and tourism areas, construction and improvement of ports, site development of tourism destinations, farm consolidation centers, evacuation and disaster command centers and upgrading of tertiary hospitals.

Navarro likewise said that Western Visayas is the fastest growing region in the Visayas and the fourth fastest outside Metro Manila.

In an interview, she underscored the importance of building connectivity among communities and growth centers and reducing vulnerability of communities to disasters.

Potential local investors such as returning Overseas Contract Workers, retirees/senior citizens and entrepreneurs are also important players that could serve as consolidators that will engage in marketing of products and services.

Thus, she encouraged local officials, government agencies, non-government organizations, and everyone to work hand in hand to pursue the dream of a more progressive Western Visayas Region.

NEDA-6 Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal, in an interview, said that many of the big projects stated in the RDP are also included in the priority programs of the Duterte administration.

The local government units also play significant roles in the accomplishment of the RDP, said Bacal.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, who is also the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council, thanked Usec. Navarro for visiting Antique and for holding the RDP Roadshow.

She also encouraged everyone to take an active role in achieving the plan.

The Regional Development Plan Roadshow is being conducted in all provinces in the region to broaden public understanding and mobilize support of multi-sectoral groups for the successful implementation of the programs and projects stated.

The RDP is also anchored with the long term vision for the country dubbed “Ambisyon Natin 2040”. (LTP/PSM/PIA-Antique)
