NICA-10: No spillover of local terrorist groups in NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 22 (PIA) — Manuel Orduña, Regional Director of National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA-10) confirmed that there is a sold intelligence community in Region 10 that is why there is no spillover of the Maute group in Iligan City or Cagayan de Oro when the Marawi siege happened a year ago.

During the Talakayan sa PIA forum on June 20, Orduña said Filipinos should be proud and thankful to the Philippine Army (PA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) in the region for providing the highest security and intelligence group in a time like that of Marawi siege.

“They are the ones who fight terrorists for us to continue our daily business,” he said.

Currently, there is an ongoing Information Education Campaign on Security headed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), PNP, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to discuss drugs, criminality, and threat groups.

He said this campaign is cascaded to schools because based on findings, the youth is the most vulnerable target of terrorist groups and communist-terrorist group for recruitment.

Also, this is a collaborative effort not just with AFP, PNP, and PDEA but this time, other government agencies such as Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (Deped) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) are involved.

Orduña said Cagayan de Oro is still not free from threats especially because the city is near Lanao del Sur where military operations are still ongoing from remnants of the Maute group, terrorist accomplices are mostly apprehended in the city, and communist-terrorist groups are still lurking in the hinterlands and countryside.

Hence, security group in the region is solid.

Orduña said that for the communist terrorist group, all they do is propaganda and these groups are just exploiting people.

He said that there are problems like this “kasi may mga taong nag uudyok.. kasi gusto nila mamuno (There are people who provoke because they want to rule).” (JMOR/PIA10)
