KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato, Aug. 24 (PIA)— North Cotabato players composed of top local players based in the province, Davao City, and two imports faced seasoned players of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in a basketball match which served as one of the highlights of the ongoing Kalivungan Festival.
The event, held at the Provincial Capitol Gym here, was opened to the public for free viewing.
Provincial Sports Coordinator Romeo Anito described the basketball match as “a very exciting game” which opened “this year’s Kalivungan Festival with a big bang.”
The PBA legends, which has already clashed with local basketball stars in Region 12 in different occasions include: Alvin “The Captain” Patrimonio (4-time Most Valuable Player), Allan “The Triggerman” Caidic, Jerry “The Defense Minister” Codinera, Rene “Bong” or “The Hawk” Hawkins, Bonel “The Gentle Giant” Balingit, Gerald Esplana, Rey Evangelista, Willy Miller, Noli “The Tank” Locsin, and Rodney “The Slasher” Santos.
On the other hand, players from the province include Vince Cuajao, Jay Atablanco, Ahmed Talu, Jen Impuma, Toping Jatico, Mike Medrano, Jun Labastida, Bor Arellano, Jun Mosol, Cog Vilarmea, and Ray Arana.
This is the second time the PBA legends played in the province after they first battled with Cotabato’s Best in 2014 (Centennial Celebrations).
Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliňo-Mendoza said Cotabateňos are privileged and honored to have the PBA legends one more time to grace the celebration of Kalivungan Festival 2018.
Concerned authorities and stakeholders, she added, continue to help each other in maintaining peace and order to ensure the success of the festival.
