KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Oct. 1 (PIA)— The National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII through its communication arm, the Nutrition for Development Organization of Social Educators (Nutri-Dose) will be convening the spouses of the local chief executives (LCEs) in the region this year.
The move aims to mobilize the spouses so they can help address the health problems particularly malnutrition in their respective area.
Agnes Myra Piñol, Nutri-DOSE president said that the spouses of the local leaders have a contributory role in realizing the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) which is anchored on the Philippine Development Plan.
“We will be holding an advocacy meeting this year to get the commitment, partnership, and support of the LCE spouses to hasten efforts to lessen if not eradicate malnutrition,” she said.
Piñol explained that through the advocacy meeting, spouses will be provided an opportunity to realize their roles in assisting the LCEs in assessing the effectiveness of nutrition-related interventions as well as an overview or adoption of best practices from other local government units.
NNC XII reports indicated that Region XII’s four provinces are included in the 36 PPAN focus areas nationwide.
The four provinces are South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani. (PIA-12)
