The annual Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is calling on all interested writers to submit their entries for its 68th year until May 31 of this year.
Among the contested categories are Short Story, Short Story for Children, Essay, Poetry, Poetry Written for Children, One-act Play, and Full-length Play for the English Division; Maikling Kuwento, Maikling Kuwentong Pambata, Sanaysay, Tula, Tulang Para sa mga Bata, Dulang May Isang Yugto, Dulang Ganap ang Haba, and Dulang Pampelikula for the Filipino Division; and Short Story-Cebuano, Short Story-Hiligaynon, and Short Story-Ilokano for the Regional Languages Division.
In addition, the Kabataan Division is open to persons who are below 18 years old as of the deadline, wherein an essay on the theme, “How will you encourage the Filipino youth to read more books?” for English and “Paano mo hihikayatin ang mga kabataang Pilipino na magbasa pa ng mga aklat?” for Filipino should be submitted.
Interested contestants may submit one printed copy of their entry per category provided that their work has not received any award from other contests before the final submission date.

The Palanca is considered as the “Pulitzer” prize of the Philippines, having the same level of prestige among literary circles.
