PhilHealth expands newborn care package

PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan, January 12 (PIA) — The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) – Palawan Information Officer Marian Carlos during ‘Kapihan sa Philippine Information Agency (PIA)’ announced the implementation of expanded coverage of its New Born Care Package (NCP) starting January 6, this year.

Carlos said that this has been published last December 21, and should take effect after 15 days.

 “We are hoping that all accredited health facilities of PhilHealth in the entire province of Palawan are implementing it now,” she said.

She emphasized that in ENCP, PhilHealth pays a health institution with P2, 950, increasing from P1, 750 last year (for every patient).

The newborn hearing screening test is now included in its program package that can be availed by the PhilHealth members, especially mothers, upon birth of their babies.

 “The newborn hearing screening test has been added to our old package,- but only covers professional fees, essential newborn care and screening test, which can be availed for the baby if the mother or father is a PhilHealth member,” she added.

There are 26 hospitals and 23 Rural Health Units (RHUs) in the whole province. Carlos also announced that health institutions may now renew their accreditations at Philhealth. (LBD/PIAMIMAROPA-Palawan)
