ALAMINOS CITY, Nov. 7 (PIA) — In its bid to provide timely, accurate, and relevant information down to the grassroots level, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Region 1 launched the “Information Network for the Youth” or iNFO YOU to capacitate student writers and leaders as information agents.
The PIA has partnered with the City Government of Alaminos in Pangasinan province for the conduct of the Capability Building Training for the School-Based Information Officers aimed at tapping the youth in Western Pangasinan to be advocates of responsible information dissemination.
First in Region 1, PIA Director Jennilyne C. Role has seen the potential of establishing the youth organization in all provinces in the Ilocos Region to further train the students as multipliers of communicating government advocacies and partners of the Agency in responsible sharing of information.
“We plan to gather all the students who will be part of the iNFO YOU from the four provinces in Region 1 in an annual convention which will be a great venue for them to learn more about responsible sharing of information,” Role said.
The two-day training held on October 17-18 in Alaminos City Conference Hall was participated by student-writers and student government officers as they are the primary partners of PIA in communicating information.
Meanwhile, April Montes-Bravo, Government Information Center Coordinator (GICC) of PIA Pangasinan also reiterated the importance of network and linkages in the public service, thus, expanding partnership with the benefactors will promote faster information dissemination.
“This is not an additional burden to you but consider it as a calling to serve your fellow youth for the love of the country,” said Bravo.
The training was participated in by 80 individuals to include the officers of the Pangasinan Association of Government Information Officers (PAGIO) and the information officers of the six divisions of Department of Education (DepEd) in Pangasinan for them to gain additional knowledge on on how to further promote the advocacies of their respective agencies.
Moreover, the training aimed to provide participants with knowledge on the functions of PIA, the role of government information officers, responsible use of social media, citizen journalism, and disaster preparedness.
At the end of the training, the youth participants elected the set of officers for the Pangasinan Chapter of iNFO YOU who accepted the challenge as partners for development of the PIA and the City Government of Alaminos.
PIA also assisted the youth in creating their official Facebook page as the first step in becoming a communication tool for faster information dissemination.
