ILOILO CITY, Sept. 3 (PIA6) — The ongoing Aklan Product Showcase 2018 at a mall in Mandurriao district here brings Boracay Island outside Aklan for people to experience, not its famous white sand and beach, but its MSME products.
Themed “Bagong Buhay Boracay” this year, the August 27 – September 2 trade exhibit is a market intervention spearheaded by Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez to help market the products of micro, small and medium enterprises displaced by the island’s temporary closure.
“We have brought here the tattoo maker, hair braider and other things that are familiar products or services in the premier tourism island to enable people to experience it,” said Roselita Sauza, president of Hugod Aklanon Producers, Inc. in her message at the event.
Also launched during the event was “oneAklan” web and mobile app which is an online marketing platform designed to widen the markets for the province’s products.
In her message, Gabrielle C. Quimpo, executive director of Aklan ICT Council, called the online platform as a crucial factor to ensure the success of local MSMEs.
The opening of the event was also attended by Gingay Hontiveros-Malvar of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship, DTI-6 Regional Director Rebecca Rascon, and other Aklan local officials.
Participating in the event are more than 50 enterprises whose products include festive season decoratives, naturally dyed fabrics, trendy fashion accessories and souvenir items, home furnishings, and meat and bakery products.
The annual marketing event is organized by DTI Aklan with Hugod Aklanon, provincial government, and Provincial Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council.
DTI Aklan OIC-Provincial Director Ma. Carmen Iturralde said the exhibitors target this year to surpass their 2017 sales as well as establish new market linkages. (PIA6)
