PSA pilots town of Biri for 2020 census of population and housing

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, June 11 (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Northern Samar pilots the municipality of Biri, Northern Samar for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing scheduled from May 20 to June 17 2019.

“This is a dry run for the actual census operation using a computer assisted personal interview technique, meaning, gathering of data and information through the use of an electronic questionnaire contained in an electronic gadget which is called tablet,” Julian Gallano, Northern Samar chief statistical specialist informed.

“The pilot census is initiated to assess if the system is ready to implement a multitude inter-related tasks for the actual census in 2020,” he added.

Accordingly, the 2020 Census of Population and Housing will be the 15th census of population and seventh census of housing in the Philippines, and the first adopting the new technique through the use of tablet.

Census is an official count or survey, a nationwide government undertaking, that is, collection, compilation, evaluation, analysis, publication and dissemination of data on population count, demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population, housing characteristics, household characteristics and barangay, city, municipality, province and region characteristics all over the country.

Biri is an island town of Northern Samar, fifth class municipality, covering 15 barangays with a total population of 11,767 as of the 2015 census. (NBQ/ AND/PIA 8, Northern Samar)
