BORONGAN CITY, Jan. 10 (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority-Eastern Samar (PSA-Eastern Samar) seeks support for the December Labor Force Survey (LFS) and the 2018 Family Income Expenditure Survey (FIES) to be conducted on Jan. 17.
Randy G. Ador, PSA Statistical Analyst II, said a total of 1,458 systematically and randomly selected sample households in the province were identified as respondents.
Some 48 statistical researchers and five team supervisors were then trained from Jan. 4 to 9 to be deployed in the 21 municipalities and 123 barangays to conduct the interviews.
Ador added that the LFS is a quarterly nationwide survey of households which aims to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population, to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting labor market.
Specifically, the LFS serves as a tool in measuring the distribution of household population particularly 15 years old and above as to employment status, whether employed, un-employed or underemployed.
It is also used to determine various employment characteristics such as industry, class of worker, nature of employment and basis of payment.
Meanwhile, the 2018 FIES is a nationwide survey of households conducted every three years, aimed to gather data on family income and expenditure as well as sources of income in cash or in kind.
Results of the FIES provide inputs in the estimation of poverty threshold and incidence. It also determines the levels of living and disparities in income of Filipino families, as well as their spending patterns.
Ador said that the respondents are interviewed by the newly trained/hired statistical researchers using a tablet under Computer-Aided Data Collection System (CADCS). The system is the agency’s first step to hasten data collection and processing through digitization.
The respondents should be ready as well to be interviewed regarding poverty and hunger. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) shall use the data from the said interview.
The PSA assures that the information will be treated as strictly confidential. It will not be used as evidence in court or for purposes of taxation, regulation or investigation as provided under Republic Act 10625 or otherwise known as the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013. (NBQ/SDC/PIA-E. Samar)
