ILOILO CITY, Sept. 19 (PIA6) — Representatives from regional line agencies, local government units (LGUs), private sectors, schools and universities in Western Visayas convened on September 17 at West Visayas State University in La Paz district here to discuss preparations for the 29th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in the region this October.
The meeting was presided by Philippine Statistics Authority 6 (PSA 6) representative Arleen Bagoning in behalf of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 6 regional director Ro-Ann Bacal, who is also the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) 6 chairperson.
The PSA 6 is the co-chair of the RSC 6.
Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01, signed by Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia, chairperson of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board, enjoined all agencies of the government, LGUs, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and the private sector at the national and sub-national levels to actively participate in and support the 29th NSM celebration.
The 29th NSM celebration is anchored on the theme, “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development”, which reflects the relevance of statistics in achieving a sustainable and progressive tourism growth for our country. It also emphasizes the need for statistics to identify potential tourism havens and areas which require intervention.
For this year’s regional celebration, Department of Tourism 6 will spearhead the opening activities set on October 4 which will commence with a motorcade around the city.
The participants of the motorcade will converge at Robinsons Place-Jaro for a program and opening of the statistical exhibits.
As reported during the meeting, the different provinces of the region will have their own NSM opening activities starting October 1.
Every year, schools and government agencies in the region look forward to the celebration for its various contests such as statistical exhibits, quiz, bulletin board contest, statistical analysis, and “EcStatistakes”, among others.
The display of statistical exhibit will run until October 23.
As of September 17, some 13 government agencies and academic institutions will join the exhibit. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
