NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Aug. 7 (PIA) — Following the lead of major cities in the country and responding to the call of President Rodrigo Duterte to clear the roads of illegal structures and obstructions, San Carlos City followed suit.
San Carlos City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo called on local agencies and department heads of the city to implement the road clearing operation pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 2019-121 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urging for the reclamation of public roads which are being used privately or for business including illegal parking of vehicles on the streets causing traffic obstructions.
Gustilo likewise directed its City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office (CPDCO) to verify obstructions on the streets and notify concerned individuals for coordination and voluntary clearing, otherwise, the local government will exact tough measures to clear public roads of any obstruction.
Meanwhile, the Business Permits and Licensing Office was directed to revoke permits of establishments that will not cooperate in the road clearing operations and the Engineering Department not to approve construction of business establishments without provision of parking space for customers.
Gustilo also cited to regulate vendors outside schools to ease traffic and have a one-side parking scheme along Locsin and Broce streets and the national highway, according to a release from San Carlos City Information Office.
The local government of San Carlos will comply with the DILG order to accomplish the task within the 60-day deadline and will ensure its sustainability. (LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
