BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 31 (PIA) – – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority- Cordillera Regional Office (TESDA-CAR) has strengthened partnership with regional line agencies and private groups/institutions to support TESDA alumni and Technical – Vocational (Tech – Voc) graduates in terms of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
The partnership formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the University of Baguio Gym on August 26 during the Cordillera leg of “World Café of Opportunities” (WCO), a nationwide TESDA – led activity held in strategic areas in all regions in the country.
Under the MOA, regional line agencies namely the Department of Agriculture, Cooperative Development Authority, Dept. of Labor and Employment, Dept. of Public Works and Highways, Dept. of Science and Technology, Dept. of Tourism, Dept. of Trade and Industry, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration will lend their support in the advancement of technical education and skills development as well as TESDA graduates through their respective existing programs and services.
For the Dept. of Interior and Local Government, it will help in strengthening the networking and linkages with the local chief executives and the different local government units in the region.
The Philippine Information Agency will help in the information advocacy and promotion and linkages for media exposure.
Baguio City, as the center or hub of education and commerce in Cordillera, is also tapped as a valuable partner for the undertaking.
The Development Bank of the Philippines and Land Bank of the Philippines are tapped as partners for business financing assistance for tech – voc graduates.
Private partners include the Philippine Economic Zone Authority – Baguio Economic Zone, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Baguio/Benguet Chapter, Philippine Constructors Association of Baguio – Benguet, the Baguio Association of Private Technical Vocational Institutions, and Association of of Private Tech – Voc Institutions in Benguet.
TESDA – CAR OIC Regional Director Manuel Wong said the World Café of Opportunities is regular activity of TESDA that serves as a one – stop shop for tech – voc education and training graduates/alumni offering all possible services including employment, financing opportunity and higher job – skills matching.
For the Aug. 26 WCO at UB gym, 430 TESDA Alumni and Tech – Voc graduates from different parts of the region availed of the employment assistance and other services.
As part of the WCO, TESDA – CAR conducted on Aug. 25 an orientation and enrolment day at the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades where it facilitated the scholarship grant to around 350 enrolees in various tech – voc courses/trades for BCSAT, TESDA Regional Training Center and Benguet Technical School.
