ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 9 (PIA)– The City’s peace and order situation is relatively peaceful and manageable, reported Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Director Col. Joseph Martir. However, the threat level in the city remains high due to the recent explosion in Indanan, Sulu.
During a recent City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting, Mayor Beng Climaco ordered the police and military authorities to tighten the security. “Do not give terrorists the opportunity to conduct terroristic activities,” she said.
ZCPO Director Martir said they have strategically deployed officers in the ingress and egress of the city, coastal area, island barangays and the central business district.
Meanwhile, ZCPO reported a decrease of crime volume this year compared to the same period last year from January to June. “Contributory to this data is the enhanced security measures and dedication of ZCPO and Joint Task Force Zamboanga,” Martir said.
Furthermore, the city’s Security and Surveillance Coordinating Office (SSCO) also contributed to the improvement in solving cases of robbery, traffic, pickpocketing and shooting incidents because of the closed circuit cameras in strategic locations of the city proper.
The city is looking forward to the progress on security monitoring for the safety and security of residents. Mayor Climaco reiterated the importance of the alert status to avoid lapses in security measures. (ALT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
